川村学園女子大学 視覚心理学研究室へ ようこそ
私たちの研究室では，人間の視覚認知，形や物体の知覚を研究しています。精神物理学的方法を使って，人間が身のまわりの環境からどのように情報を抽出し，外界の事物についての表象を形成するのか，を問題としています。特に，空間的あるいは時間的に断片的な情報から，物体や形が知覚される問題を取り上げてきました。
さらに，最近は人間が他者の顔あるいは表情をどのようにして知覚しているか，を検討しています。人間は目や口など顔の要素的部分がもつ視覚的な特徴とそれらの関係，全体としての顔や表情を即座に，しかも正確に知覚します。私たちの研究は，視知覚における「全体と部分」という基本的な問題に，ひとつ答えを提案しています。
このほかに応用的な活動として，計量心理学的な方法を使って，教育の分野で人間の認知的なスキルの測定と支援を行うための研究もおこなっています。視覚的なイメージによる問題解決や，数学的な学習をとりあげて，それらのスキルの測定と学習や問題解決の支援をめざしています。
Research in our laboratory focuses on human perception and cognition, with an emphasis on visual perception of form and objects. Our work involves psychophysical experimentation aimed at understanding how perceivers extract information from their environment and derive representations of objects, the layout of environments. Some specific concerns include object and form perception from information that is fragmentary across space and time.
We also examine the perceptual processes of face and facial expressions. Human perceptual system seems to process the visual features and their relationships or configurations immediately and precisely. Our studies suggest a solution to the whole-part problem in visual perception.
Our more applied research involves using psychometric method to measure and facilitate higher-cognitive skills in educational domain, such as visual problem-solving and mathematical learning.
